Ohio University, Athens, OH

In May 2010 my wife was invited to speak at Ohio University in Athens, OH. I took the opportunity and accompanied her. Below are some photos taken on my stroll around the university and the surrounding town. I found the way in which OU is integrated into Athens, OH a striking difference to KSU in Kent. In Athens, OH the university and its students, including the partying ones, seem to be enthusiastically welcomed by the town's population, while in Kent the relationship is largely adversarial.

Anyhow, we had dinner at Salaam, and both the atmosphere and the food were amazing. If you ever find yourself in the area, a visit of this restaurant would be an unforgettable experience!

A Riddle

Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori is a line attributed to the Ancient Roman poet Horace. It means: 'Sweet and adorning it is to die for the fatherland.' WWI poet Wilfred Owen termed it 'The old Lie.' I was somewhat taken aback to see it prominently displayed at a monument on the OU campus.
